About The Icelandic Center of Inequality Studies
The Centre was established to consolidate and advance research on inequality in Iceland. Its foundations lie in Iceland’s participation in major international comparative surveys, including the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), where inequality modules were fielded in 2009 and 2019.
Since 2020, the Centre has developed into a platform for coordinated research on inequality, health, and demography. It brings together scholars from multiple disciplines with shared interests in social stratification, education, health, family life, democracy, and social change.
The Centre operates at the intersection of:
High-quality survey research
Administrative and register-based data
Longitudinal and life-course perspectives
International comparative research
Our work spans structural inequality, attitudes and values, demographic change, democratic participation, and the social consequences of climate change.
